Possible client questions
How can you build up an online presence?
There will be online presence because of the website where readers can find more information about the featured artists in the magazine. There will also be a strong online presence from the magazine's social media accounts where readers can engage with the magazine by sending in questions, commenting on pictures and seeing some pictures online.
How do you maintain a brand identity?
One way a brand identity is maintained is through the masthead always staying black in the same, recognisable font. It is also be maintained through the repetition of chic photography of the artists, making them look powerful and like an 'icon'. Lastly, it will be maintained through the slogan under the masthead 'anyone can be an icon'.
How does your unique selling point appeal? The unique selling point that every featured artist does a live show appeals to the teenage target audience as it means readers can decide to support the artists and engage with their music by seeing them live. This also promotes the artist and North London venues which fits the brief.
As a new magazine, how will costs be kept down? One way the costs will be kept down is by making a website as opposed to other forms of having an online presence, such as an app. Also, our main form of marketing will be via social media and influencer sponsorships which have shown to bring in a large profit and revenue.
Why have you included the Artist's Top 10 songs in the double page spread? One reason I have decided to include the artist's top 10 songs in the double page spread is so readers can learn about the artist and their influences and inspirations. Another reason I have included it is so readers can learn about new songs in the pop and hip-hop genre, fitting the brief.
Why include mental health in articles? I have decided to include some questions on mental health in the interview with the artist is because I have found magazines for the target audience of teenagers have found the most success when they tap into the belief system of the audience. Social activism has become crucial in this generation as they see the world suffer consequences that will impact their future lives. I found that 1 in 8 teenagers in the UK suffer at least one mental health disorder and focussing on this core issue in society may mean the target audience will select this magazine over competitors.
How is the price justified? The price for the monthly magazine of £3.99 is justified as it gives a platform to unsigned artists from north London, recommends new songs and promotes live shows. The yearly subscription fee of £45 is justified because readers save £2.88, it gets delivered straight to your door and you get 24 hour priority time to buy concert tickets.
Why is the main artist image on the front cover? One reason the main artist is on the front cover is to fit the conventions of an artist based magazine. It also makes the featured artist look like an 'icon'.
