Evaluate the response (D1:U21)
Learning Outcome 3 (U21): Be able to pitch ideas on a proposed media product and respond to questions
The client gave me a lot of positive feedback. He the colour scheme I decided to use for the digital mock up as the cyan and magenta colours were trendy colours; as I muted the colours and made them more pastel, it gave the magazine a more classy feel that takes a more elegant look at the genres. Therefore, I will ensure to use these colours or a similar colour palette.
Having pitched to the client, I have understood that my target audience's class demographic could be extended from ABC1 to A,B,C1,C2 and D. This is because the pop and hip-hop genre is a very popular and well liked genre in north London. This is because pop music is constantly changing to reflect the modern trends in society. Furthermore, the magazine may be an item that people value and set aside money to purchase as a treat or present.
The client told me that the price of the magazine could be pushed up as it 'walks all over the competitors'. I agree that the price of £3.99 for the monthly magazine is quite cheap as the magazine has a wide range of content that appeals to a large target audience. There is no other magazine where you can the featured artists live. I have decided to price my magazine at £4.99 per issue. Initially the cost of a subscription was going to be cheaper than buying the magazine each month for either a year or for six months (with the price of £24 for six months or £45 for a year). However, upon reflecting, the subscription option includes a 24 hour priority time to purchase concert tickets which is extremely desirable, as well as the fact the magazine gets sent directly to the readers home. Therefore, I have decided the best price for a subscription will be £35 for six months or £67.50 for a year.
The client told me I should put more content that relates specifically to the pop and hip-hop. He suggested I add music charts. This ensures that the genre is not lost. Reflecting on this, I have decided not to include this because I am including the featured artists top 10 favourite songs which will be in the pop and hip-hop genre. This means readers get song recommendations in the pop and hip-hop genre, as well as learning about the artists inspirations and influences. Additionally, the genre is being upheld as the featured artists, who also perform live, are in the genre.
The client liked my forms of marketing and distributions, specifically, using social media influencers to promote the magazine as it attracts the target audience. However, he suggested I take more advantage of the locality of the magazine and the fact it's based in north London. He also suggested I use local heroes to promote the magazine. I have decided I will do this, as well as handing out small teasers at north London venues. This is to not only promote the magazine to the target audience, but it strengthens the local community.
Lastly, the client told me that it may be difficult to have 150 pages to fill with content and adverts. I agree with what he saying, therefore I have decided to have around 120 pages. This is still a lot of pages, however it is less than the original. I considered having around 80 pages but that does not reflect the £4.99 price point and means there will be less advertisements which will bring in less revenue.
Feedback I will take on board:
- Extend the target audience's class to A,B,C1,C2 and D
- Increase the price to £4.99 for the monthly issue and for the subscription, £35 (for 6 months) or £67.50 (for a year)
- Take advantage of the local aspect of the magazine by handing out teasers and north London venues
- Have around 120 pages
